This group includes both those with mild or temporary difficulties AND those with fluctuating or ongoing severe difficulties, who are managing their own health and not wanting goals-based specialist input. Information is shared such that it empowers young people and families to find the best ways of supporting their mental health and wellbeing.
Applying Getting Advice & Signposting in your role- You should:
- Undertake training in Shared Decision Making and Getting Advice & Signposting. Embed learnings from these training into practice
- Offer general advice and know where to signpost for emotional and mental health
- Understand there are groups of children and young people who may have a higher risk of developing mental health difficulties. These can include but aren’t limited to; looked after children, LGBTQ+ young people, neurodiverse young people. Be proactive in offering mental health and wellbeing support for these groups.
- Understand what is available (wider than CAMHS)
- Offer early guidance to ensure the right treatment at the right time. Focusing on early intervention to build resilience and influence outcomes positively
